MORE than 100 keen runners took part in this year's Traprain Law Race at the weekend.

The race, which is held as part of the annual East Linton Gala, was won by Tom Martin (HBT).

He finished in 37 minutes 41 seconds, more than a minute ahead of club-mate Donald Naylor, who was the first veteran man, in a time of 38.52

Carnethy's Iain Gilmore took third place overall (second senior man) in 40.23, while the first woman home was Jill Stephen (HBT), in 44.56 as she finished in 24th place overall.

Colin Donnelly, of Cambuslang, was first men's supervet class, as he finished almost five minutes after the winner for eighth place.

The event was completed by 108 runners, including in veteran categories.

Another Carnethy runner, Digby Maass, was victorious in the men over-60 category,. and Jill Mykura was the first supervet woman.

HBT celebrated success as they took both team events, winning both ahead of Carnethy.

And organisers were delighted to see the race, the first under new race director Colin Elder, run smoothly, with the largest-ever number of entries in the V60 category.

A spokesperson said: "It went really well. Fully marshalled and well marked. So congratulations, and thanks to all those who assisted.

"Hopefully Colin will maintain for years to come the tradition set by outgoing directors Keith and Trevor, who were on hand to see things went smoothly."
