MUSSELBURGH Athletic's long-serving midfielder Jackie Myles has left the club.

The midfielder, who is a teacher at Portobello High School has joined Linlithgow Rose.

He will link up with former Musselburgh manager Davie McGlynn,

Myles was made captain last season under Stevie McLeish, succeeding Brian Martin in the role,

He was a mainstay of the Burgh side under McLeish, and was instrumental in their run to last season's Scottish Junior Cup final.

After the county club lost the final 2-1 to Auchinleck Talbot, McLeish, who recently left the club for Newtongrange Star, praised the dynamic midfielder.

He said: "Jackie is a great guy to have around.

"He always gives his all and he's no less than a seven-out-of-10 every game."

His departure means the entire starting 11 from last June's junior cup loss has now left the club, with Eck Christie and Steven Thomson also departing this summer.

And McGlynn told Courier Sport he was delighted to have signed the midfielder.

He said: "Jackie is a good lad, he's got a great temperament and he works hard, which is the most important thing.

"He is a winner."

The Linlithgow boss, whose dad Charlie is chairman at Musselburgh, confirmed he tried to sign Myles last season.

"We tried to do something but it's difficult when it's your dad's club.

"I heard he was looking for a bit of a change, so that's why we went in for him.

"I signed him for Musselburgh so I'm looking forward to working with Jackie again."
