Dunbar RFC chairman David Wilson was given a coveted award by Scottish Rugby last week.

The Dunbar stalwart was named BT volunteer of the month for April in recognition of his contribution to the club.

Having been involved with Dunbar since he was a 16-year-old, Wilson has represented the club in every capacity through playing, coaching, as president and in his current role

He was presented the award by Fiona Blair, the club's treasurer at Hallhill.

Wilson said: “I am truly humbled to have been recognised as Volunteer of the Month, I enjoy working behind the scenes and it is great for the club to also receive recognition.

“I try to get involved in most things through my various roles over the years, whether that be committee member, mini and midi coach, tour organiser, Scotland Club XV ticket convenor or UKCC Level 1 referee."

David’s collation of Dunbar’s history has grown over the seasons with one of the rooms in his current home now dedicated to his collection and memorabilia of the club.

He added: "I have really enjoyed putting together the history of the club and it has quickly become a passion of mine with over 150 folders detailing each season.

“It does take up a lot of my time and I probably spend far too many hours putting it all together but I think it’s definitely worth it.”

As well as attending all meetings within the club as chairman, David also reports on the matches from the touchline with his camera and notebook to provide match reports, videos, photos for the club website.

He collates player statistics and records of appearances while also being known for his encyclopedia type knowledge of Dunbar RFC.

As a result of his award, Wilson will be in the running for BT Volunteer of the Year at the awards dinner at BT Murrayfield Stadium tomorrow (Friday).
