PRESTONPANS boxing star Josh Taylor is back in the ring this weekend as he bids to extend his unbeaten run since turning professional.

The 24-year-old, a Commonwealth Games gold medal winner, will face Frenchman Jean Moraiti at the Ice Arena in Cardiff on Saturday evening.

The bout is Taylor's fifth as a professional and he will be looking to continue an impressive run of form.

The county ace, nicknamed the Tartan Tornado, has taken just six rounds to win his four previous fights, with wins over Adam Mate and Daniel Minescu coming in the opening round.

Ahead of the bout, the former Preston Lodge High School pupil, who is managed by former world champion Barry McGuigan, was in confident mood.

He told Courier Sport: "I expect him to come out and try and make me throw a few shots.

"I've watched some of his fights, and I expect it to be another step up in class."

And Taylor took to social media last week as he completed his training regime for the fight.

He tweeted: "22 good hard rounds sparring done and in the tank this week.

"Feeling good for Cardiff. Can't wait to get back in fight."

The bout is part of the undercard for Lee Haskins' IBF world bantamweight title defence against Ivan Morales.

That fight will be shown in Channel 5, but it is unclear whether Taylor's bout will be televised.
