HADDINGTON fell to an agonising 12-run defeat at the hands of Boroughmuir on Saturday.

The Neilson Park men asked their hosts to bat first, and Jeremy Beard made a hard-fought 21 while wicketkeeper Butt added a well-played 62 to add to their total.

The Muir star was eventually out thanks to Haddington captain Tim Blades, who claimed two late wickets to help the Haddington cause.

Hew Dalrymple was the stand-out bowler for the home team as he claimed 3-7, with his season figures now an impressive 6-14 from 14 overs.

In reply, there was an excellent opening stand of 68 between Hamish Adamson and Alan Cruickshank.

The former played superbly before falling two shy of his half century.

Peter Barrowman helped Haddington towards the Muir total, but a collapse in the middle order did not aid their chances of victory.

There was a late rally from Peter Talbot, but the visitors' bowlers ran through the tail-end as they claimed victory by the narrowest of margins.

Haddington will hope to bounce back as they welcome Drummond Trinity to Neilson Park on Saturday.
