Two teenagers from a county-based gymnastics team brought home a gymnastics medal for Team GB at the European Championships.

County-based youngsters Ciara Donlevy and Caitlin O'Brien, from City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club at Meadowmill, were selected for the British team – the only gymnasts from a Scottish club in the Great Britain double mini trampoline (DMT) squad.

The duo travelled to Valladolid in Spain for a a pre-competition training camp, and were part of a successful Team GB squad at the championships, which took place between March 31 and April 3.

And after finishing 13th and sixth, respectively in the individual DTM, they joined Team GB colleague Kirsty Way to produce a stunning display to claim bronze in the team event.

They were only bettered by Spain, who took the silver medal, and champions Russia.

And both girls said their time at the championships was "an amazing experience."

Ciara told Courier Sport: "It was an amazing experience and a great learning curve competing as a senior for the first time”

“I am proud that we got a medal as it is a very young senior team and it was the first time we have all been in a team together”.

“I hope to represent Great Britain at senior level again in the future."

Meanwhile, Caitlin said: "It all came about very quickly for me as I was called from being a non-travelling reserve to being an official competitor with only a week before we flew out to Spain.

"It was an honour to be selected to compete in my first senior competition and to be able to win bronze alongside my teammates.

" I have the opportunity to qualify in the Senior women category at the British Championships, which will be held in July this year.

"I hope to compete along side the other senior girls in the hope of winning a podium place at the British championships."

Moira Jeffrey, club secretary, added: "All the junior and senior GB gymnasts taking part in the three rebound disciplines – trampolining, DMT & Tumbling - all performed really well, coming home with a total of five gold, four silver and seven bronze medals.

"We’re all extremely proud of the girls and what they have achieved!"
