COUNTY football ace Matthew Knox played a starring role as Livingston beat Rangers at Ibrox.

The 16-year-old midfielder made his first start for the West Lothian club at the Tony Macaroni Arena, and helped set up the only goal of the game.

Knox's brilliant free-kick was headed in by Craig Halkett against the Championship champions.

And Knox's dad, also Matthew, was delighted with his son's full debut performance.

He told Courier Sport: "He played against Andy Halliday in the middle of the park – Matthew was magic.

"What a ball it was from him from his free-kick for the goal."

The 16-year-old, a former Preston Lodge High School pupil, is being monitored by a number of top sides, including Rangers.

The highly-rated county ace spent a week on trial with Mark Warburton's men, and has also spent trial periods with Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton.

Livingston turned down a bid from two-time European champions for the starlet in the January transfer window.

Despite victory at Ibrox, Knox's Livi side will face a play-off as they look to avoid relegation from the second tier.
