COUNTY swimmer Dan Wallace has been selected for the Olympic Games.

The North Berwick ace, 23, has been picked in a 26-strong Great Britain swimming squads for the Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August.

Wallace previously starred for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, winning gold in the 400m individual medley, as well as silver in both the 200m individual medley and the 4x200m freestyle relay

He has made it as one of three 'wildcard' picks in the squad - swimmers who the selectors feel could act as relay alternates to swimmers with busy schedules ahead of the Olympics.

His selection comes despite a disappointing performance at last week's trials, where he failed to reach the qualification standard in his three strongest events.

Following his selection for his first Olympic Games, which was announced this morning (Thursday), Wallace posted on Instagram: "Form is temporary, class is permanent. I never gave up, thank you for believing. We're going to the Olympics."

Among Team GB's major medal hopefuls in the swimming squad are world champions Adam Peaty and James Guy, as well as Scotland's Hannah Miley, who is heading to her third Olympics.

Wallace's selection follows Wallyford's Micky Yule being named in a four-man GB para-powerlifting squad for the Paralympics in September.

Yule, 37, lost both his legs while serving as a soldier in Afghanistan in 2010.

Since then he has become among the world's best in the sport, narrowly missing out on a medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

He will compete in the 65kg category in Rio.
