County badminton ace Robert Blair claimed double success at the Yonex Scottish Open Championships at the weekend.

Blair, from Longniddry, won the men's and mixed doubles partners alongside Mauchline's Adam Hall and the retiring Imogen Bankier.

The 34-year-old was delighted to have lifted the coveted trophy once more.

He told Courier Sport on Tuesday "It was always nice to win – there are some pretty promising young players coming through now so it's more difficult than it once was."

Blair, who has taken on a coaching role with Badminton Scotland, was pleased to see some of the stars of the future coming through.

He added: "I've been helping out doing some coaching and it's been good.

"It's not too much of a change – I think when you're experienced in whatever field you're in you try to pass on advice and it's been good.

"The head coach left about the same time as my contract was up and they asked me if I'd be interested in doing some coaching."

And just days after his double Scottish title success, the Longniddry veteran admits he is unsure of his long-term future in the sport.

"I'm playing a lot less and with the coaching, I spend more time passing on advice to the young players than actually training myself.

"That's not a bad thing at my age."

"I'm not sure what I'll do long-term but it's been nice and I will just take each day as it comes."

And the county star said his mixed doubles success in Perth was the perfect send-off for long-term doubles partner Bankier.

He told Courier Sport: "She's not really been playing properly for a while but I think she wanted to come back and sign off properly.

"It was nice to win it with her because we've been playing together for a while and it was a nice way for her to finish."

In the first of his finals, Blair and youngster Hall saw off top seeds Martin Campbell and Patrick MacHugh in the final, winning 21-19 21-18 after a closely contested match.

That is Blair's third men's doubles success, after wins in 2013 and 2014, while he was a beaten finalist last year.

He then joined Bankier as they beat Campbell and Julie MacPherson 21-11 21-16 to secure his second title of the day, and defend his crown of the last two years.

Blair is preparing to travel to Russia next week, where a young Scottish side will take part in a competition against the hosts, France and Italy.
