County football teams enjoyed success at the weekend, with Dunbar United causing a cup shock and Tranent staging a comeback win.

Dunbar saw off Superleague strugglers Tayport after a thrilling contest, which ended level at 3-3.

Chris King netted either side of a Dean Ballantyne strike for Geoff Jones' side, but the home side struck back each time and took the game to a penalty shoot-out.

John Johnstone was their hero though, as he saved a Tayport spot kick to book Dunbar's place in the next round.

Tranent, meanwhile, came from a goal down to beat Kirkcaldy YM in Fife to maintain their promotion push in the South Division.

Gary Small's side are now nine points clear of second-place Blackburn United, who have two games in hand.

Haddington Athletic were without a game, but there was disappointment for Musselburgh Athletic, whose match with Hill of Beath Hawthorn was postponed for a second consecutive week.

Stevie McLeish's side were in friendly action though, but lost 2-0 to Peebles Rovers at Meadowmill.

There was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the county's rugby sides, with Musselburgh and Preston Lodge beaten in the BT Cup.

Grant Talac's Burgh side travelled to Premiership strugglers Selkirk hoping to cause an upset, but were well beaten, losing 47-7.

Preston Lodge also took on higher league opposition, and put up a good fight against Jed-Forest, as they went down 10-33.

There was another win for North Berwick, who reached the BT Edinburgh Shield final with a last-gasp victory over Penicuik.

A Liam West conversion in the final minute saw Jason White's side extend their unbeaten season and book their place in the final.
