It has been a sensational two weeks for swimming at a Haddington school.

Compass School, on West Road, have enjoyed some superb performances, which started at a gala at Fettes College in the Capital.

The school’s teams won the overall competition with the performances of each of the 18 children involved counting towards the final result.

They beat Edinburgh Academy to the title by five points, while Merchiston finished third with the hosts in fourth.

And last week, at the inter-school swimming gala at the Aubigny Sports Centre, there was more success for Compass.

They won the U10s and U11s events thanks to some superb swimming.

Mrs Alny Graham, the founder of The Compass School, presented awards to each competitor and trophies to the winning teams.

This is only the third time in the event’s 18-year history that this ‘double’ feat has been achieved by teams from The Compass.

Mr Mark Becher, headteacher, said: “We are immensely proud of all our young swimmers and their achievements during the past two weeks. They have shown tremendous determination and skill every time they have swum and they are rightly proud and delighted with what they have achieved. "An incredible number of ‘Personal Best’ times have been recorded, showing how committed our children have been on each occasion.

"Credit for these successes must also go to their teacher, Mrs Shelagh Legget and to their instructors at the Aubigny Centre who work with all our children every week of the school year and help them to develop as strong and confident swimmers”
