There was success for a county star in Glasgow at the weekend.

Sarah Warnock, from Musselburgh, was part of the Scotland team that competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, but has endured a difficult time in the 18 months since, with injury problems preventing her from reaching the peak of her powers.

She took her first steps on the road back to the top table of UK long jump with victory in the Scottish Indoor Championships at the weekend.

Warnock's leap of 6.13m was enough to seal victory, ahead of her Edinburgh AC club-mate Gillian Cooke at the Emirates Arena to complete a hat-trick of national titles for the 24-year-old.

Victory in Glasgow saw Warnock defend the title she won last year, and she hopes her injury problems are now behind her.

She said on social media site Instagram: "Happy to be named Scottish Long Jump champion again! Nice to be on the podium."

Warnock's third success was hailed by Scottish Athletics, who tweeted the Musselburgh star their congratulations.

Their tweet said: "Congrats @SarahWarnock05 hat-trick #SALChamps indoor golds @EdinburghAC."

And she was praised by her club, Edinburgh AC, who said: "Well done to all our medal winners at the Scottish Indoor Senior and U17 championships."

The 24-year-old, who works in Luca's in Musselburgh to help fund her athletics career, has been beset by ankle and groin issues in recent months.

Warnock can now look forward to the UK Indoor Championships in Sheffield, which take place this month.
