Former Musselburgh Athletic manger Davie McGlynn hailed his greatest managerial achievement as he guided Linlithgow Rose to a historic Scottish Cup win on Tuesday evening.

McGlynn's Linlithgow Rose became the first junior league side to reach the last 16 of the senior Scottish Cup after a 1-0 replay win over Forfar.

Kevin Kelbie's goal was enough to settle the tie, and set up a glamour last-16 clash with Premiership outfit Ross County.

And McGlynn, whose dad Charlie is the president at Musselburgh Athletic, hailed his side for their efforts.

He told Courier Sport: "I am absolutely delighted.

"To go up there with 12 players and have my captain call off on the morning of the game because he couldn't get time off work, it looked like a mountain to climb.

"I thought we bossed the game and deserved to win.

"It's definitely my biggest achievement as a manager and it shows what clubs in the junior leagues can do – we can compete at a higher level."

McGlynn was manager at Olive Bank for almost a decade, before leaving to join Bonnyrigg Rose, where he spent just a few months before joining Linlithgow.

And McGlynn said he took over at "a difficult time for the club" but believes they have turned a corner, both on and off the field.

"It was a difficult period for the club when I took over but we've really turned things round now and I think we're starting to see the results.

"It's a massive result for the club and for all the guys behind the scenes who work so hard."

The Musselburgh man believes his squad have earned their last-16 tie with the Premiership club, which takes place at Dingwall next weekend.

"It will be a day out for us – we'll try and get as many people there as we can and we'll enjoy it.

"We'll go with a game plan to beat them but it's going to be really tough.

"We've played a League One side tonight but we're going up against a Premiership team and obviously they'll start as massive favourites."

Another familiar face in the Linluthgow side was goalkeeper Ally Adams, who joined the club in the summer from Musselburgh Athletic.

His final game for Burgh came in the Junior Scottish Cup final – a competition his current side are still in.

The West Lothian club are hoping to add to their four junior cup titles, and lead the way in the East Superleague, four points ahead of Stevie McLcish's Burgh side.

Another ex-Olive Bank favourite, keeper Ally Adams, was between the sticks as Linlithgow sealed their place in the last 16.

The county club posted their message of congratulations on social media.

They tweeted: "Congratulations to @mcglynn10 and his Linlithgow Rose team on becoming the first Junior team to reach the last 16 of the Scottish Cup."
