TRANENT’S seventh game of their 2015/16 campaign brought a visit from Kirkcaldy YM, who after playing in the North Division last season moved southwards.

Gary Small’s Tranent were eager to return to winning ways after dropping their first points of the season in their 4-3 reversal against Whitburn Juniors a fortnight ago.

Tranent’s eagerness to win was apparent from the outset and they exerted reasonable pressure, but the YM defence were in uncharitable mood. It was evident the league leaders would be forced to put in a shift, all the more so when their Fife visitors took the lead after 20 minutes through Binnington, rather against the overall run of play.

Tranent stuck to their task and found themselves back on level terms with 10 minutes of the first half left when Kenny McMillan beat the YM custodian. That was how it stood until the interval, 1-1, with Tranent having more of the game.

The visitors shocked the home crowd again when they restored their one-goal advantage 10 minutes into the second half, Graham’s powerful shot in off the post giving Sinclair Inglis little chance.

Small changed his formation and made a couple of personnel changes and on 68 minutes his tactics paid their first dividend when Tranent once again equalised. Kenny Fisher took the plaudits with a terrific strike which acted as a springboard for his team to go on and win the three points.

The visitors seemed to tire as time wore on and Tranent largely dominated, finally taking the lead with a goal from assistant boss Joe Murray, before a second of the afternoon from McMillan with seven minutes left.

A 100 per cent home record so far is a solid foundation on which to build for Tranent in their pursuit of promotion.

Next up are Lochgelly Albert in central Fife, who may themselves entertain promotion aspirations and inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Dunbar in East Lothian just three weeks ago. Gardiners Park is no easy venue to visit, as the Tranent boss will know from his time at Edinburgh United and Haddington Athletic, and their hosts are sure to make it another tough afternoon.
