Dunbar recorded their first league win of the season with an emphatic win over Dalkeith on Saturday.

The county club have been without several regulars this season, but were able to welcome back the likes of Kyle Donnellan and Keith Courtney to the starting side, while the backs were unchanged.

Mark Coull's men made a perfect start, as they took the lead within two minutes, wing-turned-flanker Ally Brown grabbing the opening try after some poor Dalkeith defence.

And they added a second try shortly after, when full-back Antoin Penrose burst clear, and stand-off Ross Charlton added the extras to make it 12-0.

Blair Mills extended the lead with a penalty, and had a hand in the next Dunbar try, as his clever chip was gathered by Penrose, who went over for his second of the first half hour.

Charlton converted from the touchline to extend the Dunbar lead to 22 points before the hosts kicked a penalty to get on the board.

Flying full-back Penrose capped a magnificent first-half performance with his hat-trick try, after solid defensive work by Brown and slick handling by the experienced Jamie Peters.

Charlton extended the lead with the conversions.

The bonus point was already secured, and Dunbar all-but sealed the win when John Peebles touched down on the stroke of half-time, with Charlton's conversion taking it to 36-3 at the interval.

Shortly after the break, the match was thrown into some doubt after the referee pulled his hamstring, but Dunbar physio Amy Coventry aided the man in the middle and he was able to continue.

He put Greig Patrizio in the sin-bin after Coull's side gave away a succession of penalties near their line, and with the Dunbar pack down a man, Dalkeith were awarded a penalty try following several scrum penalties.

The visitors' number eight returned from his spell cooling off, but Dalkeith seemingly had the upper hand as the hour approached.

A loose pass was not dealt with by the home team, though, and Gary Peebles sprinted clear to score under the sticks. Charlton converted.

James Kelly, on at half-time, was the next man to go to the sin-bin and the home side took advantage as they crossed once more.

And they will now enjoy a break from the rigours of league action, as they take on East Division 2 outfit Liberton in the BT Shield on Saturday.
