It's almost time...

The wait is almost over. Being Human starts on BBC Three on Sunday night at 9pm. Yay. In the same timeslot as both Lost and new Supernatural. Boo. Talk about making things difficult for yourself.

That said, having been lucky enough to see the first episode of Being Human (and indeed the first two of new Lost - I'd rather stab myself in the head with a biro than watch Supernatural I'm afraid) I can say that - in my humble opinion at least - Being Human is as good, if not better than the pilot and would be my first choice of viewing on Sunday night. The camaraderie between the characters is still there, the humour and warmth is still there, and the melancholy undertone is still there too. Plus if you watch Being Human live and tape/Sky Plus Lost then you can flick through the irritating ads.

Come back on Monday for a spoilerish review, and to leave your comment about what you thought of the long awaited first episode. In the meantime, we caught up with Lenora Crichlow (Annie) and Aidan Turner (Mitchell) for an exclusive chat about exactly what people can expect from the show.

Aidan said: "It's a funny thing, I still don't know if I'd categorise it as a comedy or a drama, There's so many comedic elements to it, with George's character especially and Annie. There's less with Mitchell, he's a vampire - he's broody - you can't let some things go, people want to see a broody vampire. But it balances very well. You definitely can expect to be entertained and very quickly hopefully you'll become attached to the characters.

"There's a lot of soul and humanity in it, it's not flimsy. There's a lot of heart in it and I hope people see that and how real it all feels even with the underlying premise being a supernatural one. That's almost a side point, which is the brilliant thing - I didn't thnk it'd be like that, I thought it'd be obviously sci fi - full of fangs and, well ok maybe not capes but certainly the gothic trappings - but it's not, it's more subtle and full of depth than that. And there's something in it for everybody."

Lenora added: "I think the show is quite a rollercoaster. It's very entertaining but it'll surprise people in how dark it is. Each episode has real depth. There are themes of love and possession, I think there's something for everyone in there. That's the joy of it. Sometimes I do stuff and I think 'I can see who this is aimed at'. The thing with Being Human is I can't really think of anyone who wouldn't find anything in it. You can expect the unexpected. Even the three of us when we read the scripts were saying 'no way!'. You don't see it coming, its not cliched, it's not all rosy, it's not all tied up. We'e all so incredibly excited. I've never worked on something that I've anticipated the arrival of the next chapter of so much."

And if that hasn't got you sold, I have just found someone else's summation of why you should watch Being Human on Sunday on the interweb and I concur utterly:

Reasons to watch Being Human on Sunday, instead of Lost or Supernatural:

1. Sky+/Downloading (via legal methods) Lost or Supernatural means you can skip through the adverts - Being Human has none

2. All three shows will be repeated hugely over the next week - Being Human is the one that needs the viewing figures, the other two will be made whether you watch them or not

3. Support home grown genre TV. Good home grown genre TV at that. I promise you, it knocks Demons into a cocked hat for starters.

4. It's absolutely great .
