The logic of the Scottish Court Service utterly defeats me.

Haddington Sheriff Court has two courtrooms. Edinburgh Sheriff Court does not have an infinite number of courtrooms so if the civil and criminal courts at Haddington are to be transferred to Edinburgh, where on earth is the Haddington Sheriff Court business going to be conducted?

This is bound to lead to delays in court business being conducted, despite what the Scottish Court Service asserts without producing any evidence.

As an interesting and perhaps revealing sideline, before Nicola Sturgeon became an MSP she was a solicitor and early on in her legal career she appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court in the 1980s.

With her experience of seeing for herself how busy Haddington Sheriff Court is, I am very surprised that she has remained silent over the closure, along with fellow MSPs Christine Grahame and Kenny MacAskill, who were also solicitors before becoming MSPs, unless, of course, the SNP parliamentary party hierarchy at the Scottish Parliament has such a grip on its members that they dare not speak out on matters.
