Another successful Fringe by the Sea event has been marred by the lack of adequate toilet facilities in North Berwick for visitors and residents, and has been both a personal disappointment and inconvenience.

Garden walls and gutters have been used by parents’ children taken short at the East Beach, as if this is medieval times!

A brief closure of Quality Street facilities has meant that people have had to approach shops and restaurants along High Street or use the antique harbour toilets, as they are unaware of approporiate alternatives.

National sporting and other town events have been seen internationally, thus most participants look forward to a good standard of hospitality, including: a) designated car parks, b) eating places and shops, c) tourist advice, d) clean toilets (with changing room/shower) and e) accommodation during their stay. Why are these provisions lacking within the community in 2014?

With local consultation, toilets could be considered, perhaps in the following locations: a) station car park, b) St Andrew Street car park, c) Scottish Seabird Centre car park, d) East Beach car park, e) West Beach area.

Most toilets are repaired in the town seasonally and all year to the benefit of residents, and to encourage visitors to promote the area and return. As economic constraints need to be considered, perhaps the March council budget could be re-examined, ready for action before the 2015 season commences.
