On behalf of the North Berwick In Bloom team, I want to convey our thanks to everyone who has supported us over the past year and, particularly, in the busy run-up to the visit by Beautiful Scotland judges on July 28.

Clearly, we would wish to do well in the competition but our interests extend beyond winning awards.

The In Bloom committee and gardeners, all volunteers, are involved all year round because we enjoy helping to keep North Berwick looking vibrant and attractive for residents and visitors. Proceeds from our fundraising efforts are reinvested directly into local projects. The expressions of appreciation and positive feedback from the community are what encourage us all to continue.

In preparation for judging, ELC colleagues, Rotary, the Brownies, local businesses, groups and individuals gave us tremendous support and the town looked tidy, cared for and colourful. The judges were provided with a portfolio and DVD and we enjoyed showing them some of the highlights of North Berwick. We are grateful to the many people who shared their interests and enthusiasm with the judges during the three hours of judging.

On September 5, the awards will be announced at a ceremony in Dundee but, meanwhile, we have begun our new programme of work and would welcome new volunteers.

If anyone would like to join us, please turn up at the Lodge Grounds car park any Monday at 9am. We will provide tools, a warm welcome and a coffee.

Our website www.northberwickinbloom.org.uk gives more information about what we do.
