Some people may say that in choosing to live by the seaside it may be an issue you naturally have to contend with, but the noise and the swoop at times of seagulls is the worst I have ever known. And it is not just endured by householders who live by the coast.

Live and let live is what I say but myself and the majority of East Lothian residents are having to endure an incessant ‘dawn chorus’ as the gulls take advantage of the terrific weather we have been having recently. Things can surely only get worse when East Lothian Council move to fortnightly bin and weekly food waste collections.

A council-led ‘cull’ is the only thing that springs to mind to deal with the problem. Either that or the council department dealing with pests from the sky should seek guidance from charity the RSPB.

I don’t indulge in using the term ‘cull’ lightly, but if the ‘powers that be’ at John Muir House do nothing the county is in danger of competing with the Bass Rock! I joke but having a seagull swoop down on you is anything but a joking matter.
