The question of whether the Blindwells site should be given over to housing or a green energy park is one of straightforward priority.

According to your report, the Government requires East Lothian to build 10,000 homes in the next 10 years; current evidence suggests this target will be upwardly adjusted.

Constantly tacking on additions to existing towns and villages causes more upheaval – not to mention local unrest – than completely new development, so our council should make it clear that it wants a new town/village at Blindwells right now. The Holyrood Government seems to be able to produce money whenever needed, so why not aim for the whole 10,000 right away?

Given the miniscule level of Scottish carbon emissions, along with continuing major increases in countries like China and India, a moratorium on further ‘greening’ makes perfect sense and would free up finance.

Five years would seem to me a suitable period, by which time the idea of producing all Scotland’s power from renewables would have become either an urgent priority or not very sensible.
