I refer to Councillor Goodfellow’s letter (March 28) regarding parking issues and the fact that it is the Scottish Courts that retain parking charges and not the councils.

My apologies for my error and I am happy to be corrected on this point.

Nevertheless, for Councillor Goodfellow to say “... until legislation is put in place to decriminalise parking in the county no such solution will be practicable” is rather glib and it requires input from all our councillors.

Parking is an enormous problem in the main East Lothian towns of Dunbar, Haddington, Musselburgh, North Berwick and Tranent. Something has to be done about it.

This is not a party political point and the councillors of all the political parties should get together and come up with a solution for the sake of the good reputation of our towns; otherwise our towns will get a dreadful reputation for unauthorised and illegal parking.
