I was sitting at Dunbar Harbour this morning watching a pleasure yacht owner lovingly polishing the hull of their boat.
Surely these are not the people who want to take away the livelihood from the fishermen, their families and associated trades whose ancestors were also involved in the industry.
Dunbar is a working harbour, it says so on the notice board.
Hundreds of people come and visit for that reason – to see and photograph the birds, history, creels but mostly the fishing boats.
If it was a marina full of pleasure yachts it would have all the character of a car park. No one would want to come and visit and another beautiful harbour would be lost forever.
Please don’t force the fishermen out, they are Dunbar people, not outsiders like some of the yachting folk. Dunbar has always welcomed outsiders, so don’t try to change it, embrace it and join in.
