Story only likely to lead to "alarm"

We would like to clarify the information that appeared in last week"s article concerning Belhaven Hospital - "Fears of ward closure" - which we feel is likely only to lead to alarm and scaremongering.
We would like to make it very clear, as we did in our previous statement, that Ward 2 at Belhaven Hospital remains open to admissions and, contrary to concerns in your report, is not closing.
This information was conveyed to staff at a meeting held on Tuesday, this week.
We are currently investing £0.4 million a year on Ward 2 and wish to ensure that patients are receiving the best healthcare services this resource can provide.
We are working closely with staff, both in Ward 2 and the four referring GP practices, to this end.
It is only right and fair for all patients, GPs and the public in East Lothian that we do this.
