Well it is that time of year again when we pack away our winter coats and dig out the barbecue from the back of the shed. . . or have I spoken too soon!
Although daylight hours are now stretching and there is understandably a greater temptation to get out of the house, it is important that each of us do our bit to stay safe and take measures to protect our homes.
There has been a fair bit of media coverage on the number of housebreakings recently; however, I am pleased to report that Police Scotland has dedicated officers in place to combat this type of crime and carry out additional foot patrols.
As well as a robust police presence, it is also important for householders to protect their property by taking simple steps at no extra cost, such as ensuring the home is secure at all times and keeping keys out of easy reach.
The more obstacles that can be placed in front of a criminal then the more difficult it is for them to enter your home.
Meanwhile, Police Scotland has also taken pro-active measures in recent weeks to target and detain offenders operating in our communities.
One such example came earlier this month when officers from Lothians and Edinburgh Divisions carried out an intelligence-led operation at an address in Niddrie and recovered nine motorbikes and heroin with a street value of between £50,000 and £75,000.
We rely on information from the communities in which we serve and I would encourage anyone aware of criminal activity in their area to contact police on 101.
