Policing arrangements for the referendum are well in hand. Our priority is to ensure public safety and security and facilitate a peaceful democratic process.

Police Scotland undertakes a daily threat assessment to take account of intelligence, crime, tensions, social media and street activity, which may impact upon the political campaigning period preceding the referendum or disrupt or interfere with the voting process. We can assure you that from the extensive information we have access to, there is currently no indication of any intention to disrupt the democratic process. That said, detailed plans have been developed to ensure that we can respond appropriately to any issues that may arise.

If you have been watching the TV or listening to the radio recently you will be well aware that Police Scotland is currently undergoing a recruitment drive for police officers. If you think you fit ‘the bill’ or want more information on the criteria please visit our website at www.scotland.police.uk Make no mistake, it can be a challenging and unpredictable job – as you leave for your daily patrol, there’s no knowing what you might encounter – but it’s also rewarding like no other. You’ll actively make life safer and more secure for everyone around you. And nothing’s more important than that.

Wildlife crime and environmental issues are of significant importance to the police service and can affect the economic wellbeing of an area as well as adversely affecting the natural environment. Additionally, wildlife crime can seriously affect the viability of threatened species.

By recognising the importance placed on tackling wildlife crime, the police service of Scotland is committed to supporting the environmental wellbeing of our area in partnership with our partner groups and agencies.

A great example of this was on September 10 when, along with the Special Investigation Unit of the SSPCA, a multi-agency operation took place in East Lothian which resulted in two houses in the Haddington area being searched under warrant and a vast array of equipment linked with wildlife crimes being recovered. At this time enquiries are ongoing with both Police Scotland and the SSPCA but we are confident that those responsible will be brought to justice.
