WITH 43 days to go until the General Election, there is a straight choice in East Lothian between a strong and stable Conservative Party or a weak Labour Party.

A vote for Labour risks a weak, failing Jeremy Corbyn in Downing Street, propped up by a coalition of chaos made up of SNP, Lib Dems and Greens. This would mean years of uncertainty for people who would see higher taxes, fewer jobs, more waste and more debt.

Labour policy proposals would result in a doubling of income tax, a doubling of national insurance, a doubling of VAT and a doubling of council tax.

Under the Conservatives, 31 million people have seen a tax cut and 4 million people have been taken out of paying income tax altogether. Basic rate taxpayers have seen a £1,000 income tax cut since 2010.

Recent polling has suggested Scottish Labour would lose their sole MP, putting support in Scotland for the Conservatives at 33 per cent.

Voters know Ruth Davidson’s Scottish Conservatives will stand up for the Union and focus on getting the best deal in Brexit negotiations. Jeremy Corbyn cannot be trusted with the Union and the SNP are putting our future at risk.

This week, only a quarter of Scots support Sturgeon’s call for a second independence referendum to be held between autumn 2018 and spring 2019. The figure puts support for independence below the 45 per cent that was recorded in the independence referendum.

Meanwhile, our local Conservative candidates are working hard for every one of your votes. It’s your chance to vote for a strong Conservative administration. Tomorrow (Friday), we are delighted to welcome Ruth Davidson to East Lothian, who will support our campaign by meeting businesses and voters. ..across the county.
