A KIND-hearted Tranent youngster has said goodbye to her long hair in the name of charity.

Abbie Mcfarlane was at Bello Capelli hair salon in Tranent on Tuesday, where she had the drastic haircut to raise funds for the Little Princess Trust.

Hairdresser Kelly Richardson gave up her time to complete the haircut, which saw Abbie’s hair reduced from waist-length to a bob.

Mum Carreyanne explained the reasons behind the unusual fundraiser.

She told the Courier: “She must have come across the Little Princess Trust when she was on the computer last week, and she told us that she wanted to do it.

“I’m really proud of her – me and her dad are.” The Northfield East youngster had initially set her fundraising target at £200, but has long-since passed that target, with her total now at more than £1,500.

Carreyanne added: “She raised £90 within an hour of the JustGiving page being set up.” The family hope that Abbie’s return to school after the summer holidays – she was due back at school less than 24 hours after her haircut – will generate more interest and donations.

Her mum added: “It went really amazing, really good.

“She cannot wait to go back to school.” The Little Princess Trust provides wigs for children who may have lost their hair through illnesses or cancer treatment, and Abbie’s hair will be donated to the charity.

It was set up a decade ago by the parents of Hannah Tarplee, who had Wilms tumour and died in 2005.

At that time, finding high-quality wigs for children was difficult, and it took Hannah’s family a long search to find a company who made a wig for Hannah.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: “Everyone at the Little Princess Trust is delighted to be receiving this wonderful hair donation. “What a kind girl to want to do something like this for others.

“The donated hair will form part of a wig and will be given to a sick child in order to help them at such a difficult time.” Donate at justgiving.com/Abbie-Mcfarlane2
