Radio Saltire opened its doors to its new home last week, with the help of a leading Scottish DJ.

And in a further boost, it is now set to be broadcast on digital radio in the west of Scotland for a trial period.

The new studios in Civic Square opened for the first time last Friday, with the band Tomfoolery joining DJ Jay Crawford for the official opening.

The community radio station will now broadcast live, via the internet, 24-hours a day from its new home and its chairman was keen to see as many people as possible get involved.

Andrew Morris said: “We are a community radio station in the true sense and, as such, welcome volunteers of all ages from all walks of life to come along and get involved. The doors are open to anybody.

“It is a pleasure to have Jay Crawford along to open our new studio.

“In the world of radio, Jay has become a legend in his own lifetime and, certainly in Scotland, he has no equal” And in a second boost, the station has joined a consortium of stations based in Glasgow.

As a result of that link, the station will broadcast in the west of Scotland on DAB Radio for a nine-month trial period, from September 1 Mr Morris believes this will increase the potential listeners by “at least a million people”.

That will run alongside regular online broadcasting, and will all take place from their Tranent base.

He added:“The station will grow, fulfil great ambitions and be a real credit to Scotland.”
