More than £17,000 has been raised by this year’s Walk with Scott charity challenge – bringing the total it has raised over three years closer to the £100,000 mark.

The challenge sees Tranent comedian Scott Glynn and friends walk to each of the county’s six rugby clubs over a weekend, playing a game of rugby at each.

The super total has been helped in part by Jim Brown, who donated £1,000 after he completed the Edinburgh Half Marathon at the end of last month, meaning that the total is now at almost £17,500 for this year’s walk.

Mr Brown said it was a “pleasure to run” the 13.1 mile course in aid of Walk with Scott, and his handsome donation has taken the cause, championed by Scott closer to breaking the £100,000 barrier.

Scott told the Courier ahead of this year’s walk that he had set his sights on raising the six-figure sum over the three years.

The kind-hearted Tranent fundraiser took to social media to encourage people to keep sending in their donations.

He said on his Facebook page last week: “Well done all the Scotters and those kind people who have sponsored us.

“This morning, Walk with Scott 3 broke the 16k barrier. There’s still time to help us smash the £100,000 for three years’ hard work.” But he added: “This walk has never just been about the money, this has been about the awareness of the charities, the friendships renewed and formed, and one of the most important things, a good old-fashioned community spirit is restored.” Although participants are able to do the walk for any charity, they are asked to donate at least 10 per cent of their total funds raised to the four charities in the Walk with Scott pot.

This year, they are Cahonas, SAMH, Teenage Cancer Trust and, new for this year’s walk, Tranent youth group Recharge.

The total stands at just under £90,000. Donate at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/WalkwithScott
