Tranent is among the towns set to benefit from more than £6 million of Scottish Government funding.

Three other towns ,Strathaven, Fraserburgh and Millport ,will also benefit from £6.4 of Historic Scotland investment to help with regenerating their town centres.

The money was awarded in round six of the funding initiative, which has seen more than £33 million invested by Historic Scotland in the last eight years.

Previous recipients have used the money to restore their town centres and high streets, brought buildings back into use, helped out homeowners with small grants schemes, and provided training opportunities in skills and education programmes.

Fiona Hyslop MSP, Culture Secretary, said:'The Scottish Government is committed to investing in regeneration projects across the country and enabling people to improve their local area and look after their heritage.

'Funding from the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) often acts as a catalyst for additional investment in a town or project from additional funders.

'I look forward to hearing the impact the scheme has on all of the recipients.' And the funding was welcomed by Fiona O'Donnell, East Lothian MP, who said:'This is fantastic news for Tranent.

'The funding should have a huge impact on the town's future and everyone who has been involved in this important work can be very proud of the progress they are making.

'It comes on the back of all the hard work that has been undertaken by the community council, the Fa'side Area Partnership and other groups and individuals involved in developing Tranent.'
