Windows of dozens of vehicles at A.C. Taxis' base on Elphinstone Road, Tranent, were shattered on Sunday afternoon, including specially adapted cars and vans used to take disabled children to school.

The attack only ended when a mechanic working in the garage came out to investigate the noise.

Taxi firm owner Robert Campbell said CCTV footage had captured a man, who was in his mid-twenties, carrying out the attack.

Mr Campbell said: “We have no idea what was behind it but it was a shocking attack which came out of the blue.

“It wasn’t just one window of a vehicle, but all of them including the ones we use for the disabled children and school contracts.” Police Scotland confirmed the damage but said two or three suspects were involved, describing them as aged between 13 and 16.

Sergeant Derek MacDonald said: “This was a senseless act of vandalism which has caused considerable damage and I’m urging anyone who can assist with our enquiries to come forward.

“Anyone who saw the incident, or any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the incident, is asked to contact police as soon as possible on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
