Tranent fundraiser Scott Glynn is encouraging everyone to get behind his final Walk with Scott campaign, now confirmed for May 2 and 3.

Scott launched the idea – which sees participants walk to each of the county’s six rugby clubs and play a game at each – two years ago to celebrate his 50th birthday and has gone on to raise more than £72,000 in the first two years.

And he is encouraging everyone who has made their New Year Resolution to get fit to get involved on Facebook, and join in – even just for one leg of the 56-mile journey around the county.

He told the Courier: “It’d be brilliant to see the people of East Lothian getting behind it, and folk can do it for their own charities, as well as the four in the Walk with Scott pot.” Scott confirmed that he had changed one of the charities that will benefit from the walks.

Tranent youth group Recharge has replaced the Bill McLaren Foundation and now joins Cahonas; Scottish Association of Mental Health (SAMH); and Teenage Cancer Trust Scotland as beneficiaries.

But the Tranent fundraising funnyman was full of praise for the Bill McLaren Foundation.

He added: “I spoke to Alan Lawson [from the foundation] and they were brilliant, so that put my mind at ease a bit.

“I’d like to thank them for their support over the last two years, and they’ve said they’re going to support us again this year, which is great.” Alan Bell, Recharge project manager, was delighted to have been chosen as one of the ‘pot’ charities.

He told the Courier: “It is fantastic news, as we were already planning to be involved with Walk with Scott 3, but to be one of the pot charities is brilliant.” Scott is urging anyone who wishes to get involved to do so for their own charities.

He added: “I want to make people aware that you can do it for your own cause, whatever that is.

“As long as you donate 10 per cent of what you raise to the pot, then you’re effectively raising money for five charities.” And anyone interested in backing the final Walk with Scott can do so on Facebook, by visiting www.facebook.com/groups/259979770768873
