A TEENAGER was pushed to the ground by a man who attempted to steal his headphones in Tranent last week.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the alleged assault and attempted robbery of the 18-year-old last Wednesday.

The incident happened at about 8:45pm on Lindores Drive.

The victim was pushed and fell to the ground. The suspect then attempted to steal his headphones while he was wearing them, but was unsuccessful.

The victim sustained minor injuries but did not receive medical attention.

The attacker is described as a white man in his early 20s, 5ft 10” tall, with a slim build. He was wearing a white jacket with a zip and a football-style logo on the chest. He was also wearing a football scarf that was covering his mouth.

The attacker was in the company of a group of four or five males, one of which had a brown Staffordshire-type terrier dog.

Detective Constable Stevie McCormick said: "This was a cowardly and unprovoked assault and [attempted] robbery, which left the victim badly shaken.

“We are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the suspect, or who recognise the description of him or his associates, to come forward."

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
