UP TO £3,000 of power tools have been stolen from a van in Tranent.

Police are appealing for information following the break-in.

The incident happened at some time between 8pm on Tuesday night and 7.45am Wednesday morning outside a property on Carlaverock Court.

The van was broken into and power tools worth about £2,500 to £3,000 were stolen from within.

Inspector Andy Harborow said: "Anyone who remembers seeing or hearing any suspicious activity around Carlaverock Court is asked to contact us immediately.

"I would advise people not to leave tools in their work vans overnight, and to ensure their property is secure.

"In addition, if members of the public are approached by anyone trying to sell power tools, do not accept them and get in touch with police."
