A Tranent man is set to take a stand in memory of his late father.

Adam Cook, an admin manager for Asda, took part in Stand Up To Cancer last year as he walked around the store, without taking a seat, for a remarkable 54 hours.

And the 46-year-old will take part in the nationwide campaign again today (Friday), with this year’s fundraiser taking on added significance following the death in January of Adam’s father after a battle with cancer.

He will once again, literally, stand up to cancer.

Mr Cook plans to stand for 12 hours from 8am on the trams in the Capital today, and is currently nearing the £300 mark in his fundraising efforts.

He paid thanks to all those who have supported him so far.

Adam told the Courier: “I’m thankful not just for the cash, but for the kind words.

“Some dedicated their donation to loved ones they lost, which I feel is very appropriate.” Adam explained his reasons for supporting the charity.

He said: “Last year in March my father found a lump on his shoulder and went to the doctor. Visits to hospitals across Edinburgh followed, but the news was not good. He had a form of blood cancer.

“Stand Up To Cancer came along and I thought ‘how can I do something?’ so I stood, not for one day, not for two, but for six days, 54 hours to be precise.

“There was nothing I could do for my dad but if my effort could change or help someone else’s father, mother, child etc then I have to give it a go, so their result may be good rather than bad.” Adam is over halfway to his total, having already raised nearly £300, and he hopes that commuters and tourists alike will add their contributions to his total on the day.
