There was cause for a celebration for a Tranent youngster as she scooped an array of medals at a prestigious Highland Gathering.

Ellie Dalrymple finished in fifth place in the under-16s category and qualified to compete in the World Juvenile Championships after her efforts at the Cowal Highland Gathering in Dunoon.

The 12-year-old, who is in her second year at Ross High School, also claimed the Scottish National Championship, Scottish Championship which is open to International Dancers, and the best Scottish Juvenile under-16 to crown an impressive week.

Her parents were delighted with her achievements.

Mum Karen told the Courier: “I am so proud of Ellie’s achievements. She qualified into the world juvenile finals in her first year (ages 12 to 15 years) and to end up fifth overall is amazing.

“She was the first Scottish dancer in the world line-up, the first four places went to two Canadians and two Americans.” Ellie, of Kemp’s End in the town, has now amassed an impressive 29 championship wins, belying her youthful years to showcase her dancing talents, honed at the Fairbairn Dance School in Cockburnspath.
