A Tranent duo stood up to an impressive test of endurance at the weekend to raise money for charity.

David Gordon, and step-dad David Rathband completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, climbing Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent on Saturday to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Despite difficult weather conditions, 31-year-old Mr Gordon and Mr Rathband, who is 51, completed the 24.5-mile challenge in an admirable nine hours 40 minutes, well inside the 12-hour time limit.

Mr Gordon, who lives on Baxter’s Gate, told the Courier: “At the end of walk I was drained, but so proud to have done something for this charity. We trained for over eight months, but not as much as we would have liked – we did long road walks and walks up Arthur’s Seat.” The duo travelled to Darlington last Friday night, before leaving at 3.45am to continue their journey south.

They began their challenge at 6.30am at Chapel-le-Dale, and finished just over nine-and-a-half hours later.

The pair, who completed the challenge in memory of David’s grandmother, who passed away in 2009 after battling leukemia, raised £659 for charity, and they thanked all those who had donated for their support.
