There was more good news for Tranent community youth project Recharge with the announcement that it has received £2,000 from the STV Appeal.

The latest funding comes soon after the group secured a five-figure grant from East Lothian Council to continue its Friday evening drop-in sessions for another year.

The grant from the STV Appeal will help fund a worker to support the charity’s drop-in sessions, offering information, advice and support to the young people who attend the service.

The sessions run twice a week, with an average attendance of more than 40 young people per night, and offer youngsters an opportunity to relax with friends or meet new ones, learn new skills and seek support.

Alan Bell, Recharge project manager, said: “The STV Appeal funding is fantastic news as it will allow the young people to get instant support and advice at the drop in sessions. This will also act as a gateway to other services for young people who are faced with significant life issues and challenges.

He explained what the money would go towards: “It allows us to have secured funding for a worker at the drop-in evenings so if anyone has any queries or problems, we will have a worker at least once a week.

“We thought this fund would be a good way of getting some money, so we applied last year and got a letter back last week telling us we had been successful.” He also confirmed the group had received a further £2,000 from East Lothian Education Trust to replace the computers in the facility, located on Church Street.
