TRANENT Belters celebrated their 40th anniversary in Wales last month and helped a twin club raise money for charity.

The group travelled to Wales to visit sister club the Bowler Hats, a charity organisation which raises money for local causes and people who need assistance, taking part in a charity fundraising event on behalf of Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

The daughter of one of the Bowler Hats, Juanita Parker, suffers from the disease and is waiting to go into hospital for an operation so the social and charity club held a charity day on their trip.

The fun day raised £510, with the Belters donating £100 towards the overall sum, which Juanita has sent to the charity.

The Belters members were delighted to help such a good cause.

The Bowler Hats are based in Gilfach Goch, Porth, in South Wales, and their association with the Belters has been going for 40 years. The groups meet when Scotland play Wales in the 6 Nations rugby tournament, staying at each other’s houses.

The Bowler Hats celebrate their 50th anniversary next year when they visit Tranent in February.
