ROSS High School’s Wendy Adams has been selected to attend a celebration of the most inspiring science teachers in the UK.

Miss Adams is one of just 100 people invited to the Royal Society of Chemistry’s event for Future Leading Teachers in London’s Piccadilly in May.

The prestigious gathering will be attended by Professor Ben Feringa, who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2016, and Amanda Spielman, HM Chief Inspector, Ofsted.

The invitation was issued by Professor Sir John Holman, president of the Royal Society of Chemistry, after Miss Adams was nominated by a fellow teacher.

He said: “As a former headteacher, I know that the first few years of teaching are crucial.

“At the Royal Society of Chemistry we are committed to supporting science teachers in their career and professional development; building their confidence, knowledge and classroom skills so that they might better teach and inspire hundreds more young scientists in turn.”

Miss Adams said she was delighted to receive the recognition.

She said: “I really enjoy working with the pupils at Ross High School and always strive to provide engaging and inspiring lessons in science.

“I work closely with my colleagues to develop courses, lessons and support-in-enquiry into new approaches to teaching.

“It is an honour to have my work recognised and I am excited to see what this opportunity leads to.”

Paul Reynolds, headteacher at Ross High, said that the invitation was good news for the school as well.

He said: “I am delighted for both the school and Miss Adams that her continued dedication and commitment to delivering the highest quality of learning and teaching has been recognised on the national stage.

“Miss Adams is currently the Faculty Head of Science, who supports her team on a daily basis.

“I know how pleased her team are for her; not surprising given that one of them nominated her in the first place.

“I would personally like to thank Wendy for all her efforts and congratulate her on being selected for this celebration of our nation’s science teachers.”
