A TRANENT woman has been placed on supervision after admitting assaulting a child.

Kelly Souness, of Caponhall Court, lunged towards the 13-year-old girl and seized her by the hair at the town’s Cairns Way last summer.

Souness then pulled the youngster by the hair and struggled with her before scratching her on the head and neck.

The 36-year-old also punched the child to the head during the attack on June 27 last year.

Souness admitted the offence at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday and was sentenced to nine months of supervision.

A not guilty plea to acting aggressively and gesticulating towards the child during the same incident was accepted by the Crown.
