A TRANENT woman has been ordered to pay compensation to a woman she attacked with a broken bottle.

Nadine Powell struck Abby Russell on the arm and body with the broken glass when the pair clashed at the Brunton Hall car park in Musselburgh in August last year.

Powell, of Meetinghouse Drive, also assaulted Katelin Steel by striking her on the head and throwing her to the ground at Links Park, Musselburgh, on the same day.

The 21-year-old attacker had admitted the attacks when she appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this year and sentence had been deferred for her to be of good behaviour.

Sheriff Frank Crowe heard she had not been in trouble since the incidents on August 12 last year and sentenced Powell to pay Ms Russell £200 to compensate for her injuries.

Sheriff Crowe also decided to admonish Powell on the second assault charge when she appeared back at the city court last Wednesday.

Previously the Crown had accepted her guilty pleas to two amended charges of assault and her three not guilty pleas to allegations of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, committing a breach of the peace and vandalising a vehicle in Musselburgh last year.
