A MAN has appeared in court in connection with an alleged robbery at a Tranent store.

Derek Inverarity is alleged to have appeared at the Mini Market on the town’s New Row with his face masked before grabbing hold of employee Mohammed Naveed.

Inverarity, of Woodburn Drive, Dalkeith, is then said to have threatened the shopkeeper with violence and then robbed him of £2,000 during the alleged incident last year.

The 39-year-old mechanic appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday, where he denied the allegations against him.

Inverarity will return to court for trial today (Monday).

He denies assaulting Mr Naveed by grabbing him, threatening him with violence and robbing him of £2,000, all while his face was masked, at Mini Market, New Row, Tranent, on August 18 last year.
