THIS year’s Tranent Gala parade will be held on Sunday afternoon instead of the traditional Saturday evening, after clashing with football.

Organisers have moved the parade after the Scotland versus England World Cup qualifier was confirmed for Saturday, June 10, leading to a lack of police cover on the day.

The parade, which will be led by this year’s Gala Queen Alicia Ross and her Consort Jack McIntosh, will be held on Sunday, June 11, at 3pm, extending the traditional gala week by a day, to avoid any clash with the match.

Meanwhile, primary schools in Tranent are contacting parents by text over the coming weeks offering to sell gala bag tickets on behalf of this summer’s annual event.

The schools have joined forces with the gala committee to help sell the tickets, which cost just £1, and provide youngsters with snacks on the day.

This year’s children’s gala day is being held on Sunday, June 4, in Ross High School playing fields.

The goodie bags, which are for children, include a sausage roll, crisps, sweets, a drink and fruit, and will be available from the Roots and Fruits van on the day.

Programmes for the gala will be sold at various outlets throughout the town and Friends of Tranent Gala forms are still available from committee members or via their Facebook page.

This year’s gala week will include the annual quiz, which is sponsored by Tranent Rotary Club.

The quiz will be held on Tuesday, June 6, in Rannoch House, and costs £3 per person to take part in.

Teams of four to six people are accepted for the quiz night, with everyone welcome to go along and show off their knowledge.

Tickets are currently on sale for a family night fundraiser, also being held in Rannoch House, on May 12 in support of the gala.

The fun night will include a dsico, raffles, a tombola and games, and prizes for all the family.
