A TRANENT thug who assaulted a woman by hitting her with a bottle and then attacking her with a piece of broken glass will be sentenced later this month.

Nadine Powell struck Abby Russell on the head with a glass bottle, causing the container to smash, before going on to pick up a piece of glass and strike the woman on the arms and body with the makeshift weapon.

Powell, of Meetinghouse Drive, also seized Katelyn Steel by the hair and headbutted her, which caused the woman to fall to the ground.

The attack on Ms Russell took place at Links Park, Musselburgh, last August 12, while the second assault on Ms Steel took place on the same date at the town’s Brunton Hall car park.

Not guilty pleas to allegations of behaving in a threatening manner by uttering threats of violence, committing a breach of the peace and throwing a dog lead at a car were accepted by the Crown.

The 20-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday, where she pleaded guilty to two amended charges of assault.

She will return to court to face sentencing on April 25.
