HARLAWHILL Day Centre has been given a glowing report by inspectors after an unannounced visit last month.

The centre, on East Loan, Prestonpans, scored near-perfect marks for care and support on offer and the work of staff.

Customers interviewed during the visit by the Care Inspectorate praised the centre and the team who look after them, with one describing “the care and loving attitude” all the staff have towards the people using the centre.

Fiona Smith, manager at the centre, said she was very proud of everyone involved.

Fiona said: “This is a team effort by everyone from management to the cleaner.

“I am so very proud of the staff here and their work and dedication.”

The Care Inspectorate visited the day centre towards the end of January and chatted to staff and people using it.

They also passed out questionnaires asking for feedback from people using the centre and their families.

In a report produced following the visit, the Care Inspectorate said: “Overall 100 per cent of responders either agreed or strongly agreed that they were happy with the quality of service provided.

“They told us: ‘I am very happy with the staff who offer lots of support’, ‘I look forwards to the days I am at the centre as the staff and volunteers make me so welcome’.”

The report, which grades four different qualities of service, gave ‘quality of care and support’ and ‘quality of staffing’ 5 – very good, and ‘quality of environment’ and ‘quality of management and leadership’ a 4 – good.

In their report, they said: “We found that the service provided a very good quality of care and support. People told us there was a good feeling of community within the centre among the staff and people being supported.”

On the environment, the inspectors said: “We saw that the environment within the service was clean, fresh, light and dementia friendly. People we spoke to found the environment friendly, homely and of a good quality.”

Management of the centre was noted to have a high level of appreciation from people using the service and staff.

And the inspectors described the staff as “a dedicated and enthusiastic” team.
