INTERNET giants Amazon have apologised after their Artifical Intelligence app Alexa claimed Scots bard Rabbie Burns wrote in Gaelic.

Tranent 25 Burns Club received an apology from the American firm for Alexa's gaffe, which was made in her quote of the day message.

Alexa urged her followers to "brush down your Gaelic for Burns Day" in her quote sent out this morning.

And Colin Mackenzie, from the club, immediately contacted them to point out their error.

Apologising for the mistake, a spokesperson for Amazon Customer Services said "I've checked my resources and I see that 'Robert Burns' never wrote in 'Gaelic' language and as you said he had only spoken and written in 'Old Scots'.

"Rest assure (sic), we'll do our best to improve our Artificial Intelligence so that it can deliver a better experience."

Alexa is an Artificial Intelligence remote app introduced by Amazon which is designed to do everything from switching on the lights in your home to controlling your thermostat at home.

It has hundreds of skills, or additional apps, which can be downloaded including quotes of the day.
