SHOPS are being warned not to sell flour and eggs to children this Hallowe’en as police attempt to crackdown on anti-social behaviour.
Officers said they would be visiting retailers in the Tranent area over the coming week asking them to refuse sales to youngsters of the household staples.
Flour and eggs are commonly used by pranksters on Hallowe’en but complaints about young people throwing them at householder’s doors and windows in recent years has led to a call for shopkeepers to take the lead.
Sergeant Derek MacDonald, from Tranent Police Station, told the town’s community council officers would be visiting shops urging them to refuse sale of the items in the run-up to Monday.
