A CHARITY worker was delighted after East Lothian MP George Kerevan donated his fee for a recent interview to her to spend on a project.

Mr Kerevan stopped by Recharge’s Tranent offices last week to hand over the cheque to Natasha Melrose, who has just been appointed the charity’s first trainee youth worker.

Natasha, who has been involved with Recharge for the past four years and is also a youth manager with the organisation, was delighted to accept the donation.

Mr Kerevan said: “From time to time, MPs are asked to do an interview about their work and views for one of the polling agencies. It takes at least an hour of my time, so there’s a fee involved, and I always donate it to a deserving cause.

“I’m a great admirer of Recharge. I like the fact that it’s led by young people, who are responsible for choosing and arranging the activities, and for managing grant funding. In Tranent they have film shows and a bicycle repair shop, a rock music project and lots of trips.

“I had the chance to congratulate Natasha on her appointment. She’s come up from the ranks, with four years’ experience at her back, which is exactly how it should be. I’ve told her to spend the cheque on something imaginative, and look forward to hearing what she and her colleagues have decided.”
